Make it concrete
A starter plan you can actually follow.
You do not need a perfect calendar on day one. You need a sequence, a weekly hour budget, and a rule: lectures never outrun practice questions.
Step 0 — decisions
- 1. Confirm state board education / experience rules and NTS (Notice to Schedule) timing.
- 2. Pick a review course you will finish.
- 3. Choose discipline (BAR / ISC / TCP) based on career + strengths — not only pass rates.
- 4. Book the discipline quarter early; work core dates backward from that window.
Sequence cheat sheet
Balanced 8-week path
ALG → FUNC → GEO → STAT → MIX
Front-load ALG/FUNC (60% of the exam), then GEO/STAT, then full mixed Praxis-style sets.
Calc-first (if rusty) path
FUNC → ALG → GEO → STAT → MIX
Rebuild functions/calculus language early so later algebra modeling clicks faster.
Stats-anxious path
STAT → ALG → FUNC → GEO → MIX
Knock out probability/stats wording early so it stops stealing mental energy.
First-section timeline
Week 3–6
ALG + FUNC deep work
- Daily: 20 cards + 15 MCQs in ALG or FUNC
- Twice weekly: teaching-task practice (diagnose a wrong student solution)
- Friday: timed 25-question mixed ALG/FUNC set
- Keep a death notebook of miss patterns
Week 7–8
GEO + STAT
- Proofs/criteria drill + coordinate geometry
- Probability tables + normal + expected value
- Weekend mixed Praxis-style set (40+ items)
- Revisit ALG/FUNC weak cards (spaced review)
Week 9–10
Full mixed mocks
- 2–3 timed sets approximating exam pacing
- Only weak-topic surgery between mocks
- Light review day before the real Praxis
- Confirm NJ score reporting / CE application steps
Daily minimum
Even on busy weekdays: 20 MCQs + review rationales + 10 flashcards. Zero lecture-only days after week 1.
Ready to sit?
Common heuristic: cumulative MCQ accuracy trending upward, weak topics repaired, and mock exams near your course's readiness benchmark. If mocks are chaotic, delay — NTS windows are expensive teachers.
